Finding A Lip Look - A Review
Finding the perfect lipstick can be difficult; there are so many things to look for - the right colour for your skin, staying on all day, not drying out your lips - the list goes on! I tried out some of the big brands to find my favourite lip look.
KKW Beauty lipsticks & glosses
KKW Beauty do some fab lipsticks - especially nudes. The coverage on these is fantastic. They are very pigmented, so with just one swipe on the lips you are getting some impressive coverage. The only thing I find difficult is getting the best colour for my skin tone. My lips are fairly dark and pink and my skin is very pale so anything super nude looks a little orangey on my lips. They also are not meant to stay on all day like a matte - which can be a pro or con. If you want full coverage, nice hydration on your lips (they don’t dry out) and you’re not planning to dig into any ribs at dinner - this is a great pick! The glosses are very nice over the top too - they’re light, non-sticky and feel super hydrating. So would I recommend KKW Beauty lip products? Absolutely.
Fenty Beauty Gloss BOMB
This one is high on the list for lots of people. I have never found this gloss that amazing. I am not a massive fan of a glosses in general though, if I’m being totally honest. If I were to pick a gloss, I try to go for something non-sticky and not too thick. This one is a little thick and sticky which does make it stay on for longer and gives you that colour, but for me it just doesn’t work. If you’re happy with that gloss feeling and you like to feel the gloss on your lips then go for it, but I am afraid to say this was a miss for me.
Kylie Cosmetics - velvets, mattes and glosses
I have loved Kylie Cosmetics for a really long time. I am easily influenced and I am a fan of the Kardashians but I was quite skeptical on trying this brand at first. I know when she first launched there were some issues with the first batch of mattes, but by the time I got in there, all issues were sorted. I LIVE for a collection release from Kylie, especially when it contains a pack of lip kits. LOVE. So why do I love them? The coverage is amazing, they stay on all day and the colours just work for me. The nude shades they have like Savage which has a peachy, pink hint, actually works for my skin tone and stays where it is all night. I would say, the mattes can dry down and leave your lips feeling slightly dry but the formula seems to be getting better and better and I would highly recommend a velvet if you want something a little softer that doesn’t take a chisel to get off at night. If you have not tried a Kylie lip kit then definitely take the plunge!
Charlotte Tilbury
For me, the only lipstick (rather than liquid lip) I swear by those in the Charlotte Tilbury range. My favourite is definitely Very Victoria. The shade is almost my lip colour so it just enhances and hydrates and I can wear this daily. What I like most about it is that, like all lipsticks, it comes off slowly throughout the day, but because this one is so hydrating and light, it doesn’t leave behind remnants so you look like you’re in a bad 80s movie with just a liner by 4pm. It leaves your lips as easily as it goes on and doesn’t feel drying in the slightest. Whatever formula Charlotte is using it’s working as this would be a 10/10 from me!
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink
When these came out before Christmas I was VERY excited. Finally something in this country that could be the Kylie alternative. I would not have to pay those hefty shipping and customs charges - at last. I got them in my stocking and tried for the first time in January. At first I thought the formula was OK. It felt a little weird on my lips - I am never sure if I am happy I can feel my lipstick so I know it’s there or whether it’s just annoying. This was annoying and quite drying. I thought I would give it one more chance though and wore it again in March. Now I don’t know if I left it too long or what, but this time it was awful. My lips were shrivelled and I kid you not I could not get it off. I had to scrub basically a layer of skin off and could still see remnants a few days later. Straight in the bin. Sorry, it’s a no from me!
