Kylie Cosmetics - My Top 5

Ok so I know what you’re thinking… I am too old to be liking Kylie Jenner and her cosmetics line, even if she has made a billion dollars! Well… you’re wrong! I love it and I am not ashamed. Here’s why…

When Kylie Cosmetics launched a few years ago I became obsessed. I can’t tell you why, I just wanted to get my hands on one of those lip kits. The whole thing was so well marketed and watching make-up influencers across social (not that they were such a big thing then) try on her ranges was something I LOVED. In fact, it’s probably 80% of the reason I started my instagram and then this blog. So thanks Kylie!

I have tried A LOT of her products now and I can honestly say I think they’re fantastic. They don’t ALL work for me and if you follow my instagram you’ll know KylieSkin wasn’t for me - so it’s not like I’m a ‘superfan’ or anything. I do just appreciate good products and for me, these are them!

Here are my top 5 from Kylie Cosmetics:

Velvet Lip (shade: ‘Goals’)

This velvet lip is literally Goals! When Kylie brought out her matte liquid lipsticks I really enjoyed them, but for me they’re a little drying. So, when she brought out her velvet range, which is less matte and more silky, these really worked for me. My lips are naturally quite pink and a lot of her colours have a hint of brown in the shade which work really well for my tone. I particularly like this muted red which can work for everyday or going out. Little tip - if you are wearing one of these velvets and you don’t want it to dry out your lips, don’t layer it up! I find if I am going out and I layer, it can really make my lips feel dry. So if I feel it’s coming off a bit I put on a balm over the top and it becomes glossier and like a stain. Then later on you can layer on top of the balm.

Highlighter - The Wet Set

I was so excited when this highlighter set first launched. It was part of the 2017 Holiday Collection and I bought the whole collection as a little birthday (it’s 3 days before Christmas) present for me. I realised a few days after ordering that it did not come part of the bundle and so scrambled to buy it and add it to my order. To my relief it arrived just in time for Christmas. The Wet Set was something a bit different to the other pressed highlighters in Kylie’s collection. These apply a lot better with fingers rather than a brush as they are somewhere between a cream and a powder, but you can make them far more intense by wetting either your fingers or the brush before application. They are probably a little glittery for everyday for for a night out, this highlight is FIRE!

Eyeshadow - The Sorta Sweet Palette

I have tried quite a few of Kylie’s palettes now and some I have enjoyed and others not so much. I tend to use the same colours everyday and as I have hazel green eyes I get on well with brown colours for everyday. When I took my trip to New York in April, I made my mum walk about 25 blocks with me just to go to Ulta Beauty - and I was determined to pick something good. I chose this palette because of the everyday colours and now I genuinely use it daily. The darkest shades are great for makeshift liners that are not too intense and there are great shimmer shades for under the brow bone. This is my fav palette ever!

KyBrow Gel

I was very excited when Kylie launched Kybrow. My obsession with eyebrows and my obsession with Kylie Cosmetics coming together? The dream! I missed the first drop, so on the restock I managed to purchased an eyebrow pencil and some of this gel. The pencil was pretty standard tbh and I decided to stick with my everyday (far cheaper) version. However this gel… wow! It is like glue and no I am not over exaggerating. It could be a little much if you are not used to it and you have to be a little careful. If you’re someone who touches your eyebrows a lot throughout the day, pulling at one could mean you pull out quite a few hairs (done it once - never again). But it you want the ULTIMATE hold for your brows, this is basically like gluing your eyebrows to your face. And don’t worry, a decent cleanser washes the gel away no problem.

Concealer

Last and by no means least is the Kylie Concealer. Buying foundation or anything where you have to choose the right shade for your skin online is always a little difficult. I found this quite easy though with the great descriptions and guides. I am pale but red-based so went for the least yellow sounding shade I could - they always come up yellow on me. I chose Gypsum. I was so pleasantly surprised by this. The coverage is amazing. It does not crease throughout the day. It isn’t drying and my only wish is that she would make it bigger so I could use it as my foundation. 10/ 10.
