Finding The Right Cleanser
For me, cleansing my face used to be something I would dread. I didn’t know it at the time but I had massively sensitive skin and I was using a cleanser that was full of toxins and not designed to be gentle. It felt like I was scrubbing with sandpaper and my skin was left red raw. So much so that when I put make-up on it would bring me out in a rash and for a long time I thought I was allergic to basically every foundation. Fast forward to now and after I was given an education by an amazing Kiehl’s expert, I have found some cleansers that work for my dry, sensitive skin.
So if you’re having skin issues, this is the first place to start and make sure you have the right cleanser for your skin type.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil
So as I mentioned, the reason I am and will forever be in love with Kiehl’s is because it was the first time I really started to pay attention to my skin and give it the attention it deserved. Before that I was a teenager, it was all about plucking my eyebrows (wish I hadn’t) and trying colourful lipsticks. Moisturising and caring for my skin was the furtherst from my mind. So, anyway, these days if I had to pick a Kiehl’s cleanser it would be the midnight recovery oil. It removes make-up and it’s gentle so you can use it round your eyes and not worry about anything too harsh on your skin. For me, oils work nicely because my skin is dry - this oil doesn’t dry it out but leaves it feeling soft and refreshed.
BeautyPie’s Japanfusion Cleanser
I was previously a member of BeautyPie. I really like what they’re doing and would recommend it to anyone getting into skincare and beauty. I am actually not a member anymore, just because I buy so many products and like trying out different brands so I didn’t really want to pay a monthly membership cost, I’m not made of money (sadly)! My favourite product from the BeautyPie range though was definitely the Japanfusion cleanser. It’s full of antioxidants and Vitamin C. It starts as a gel and mixed with water it goes milky. I found it very hydrating and great for taking my make up off. A winner!
Clarins Extra Comfort Anti Pollution Cleansing Cream
Clarins do a range of cleansers for sensitive skin which are gentle and foaming. I specifically chose this one because it’s OK to use around the eye area. Plus it’s designed for a heavily polluted environment and Hello, I live in London! It restores radiance and purity and is really gentle. I loved this and as you can see from the picture it’s almost empty now. With this one I think you could do with another cleanser before this to get all your make-up off and so I would probably recommend as a second cleanser but I absolutely love it.
No 7 Radiant Results Nourishing Cleansing Balm
This is the cleanser I am using right now and I have fallen in love. All balm cleansers I find soooo nice. It’s so gentle on my skin and leaves it feeling so soft. I often buy No 7 products for my mum who loves their skincare and so when I was in there I got talked into buying this. I thought I’d try it out a few times and that would be it but since then I have not looked back. It’s great for dissolving make-up and dirt and just leaves my skin feeling so moisturised and hydrated afterwards. And the best thing is the price point - it’s definitely the most reasonable of all my fav cleansers.
Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser
I started using Glossier fairly recently, a starter kit was my introduction and I decided to try their signature cleanser. Glossier is a very skin first brand which means this is a perfect soft, gentle cleanser for sensitive skin. They use the same agents found in contact lens solution meaning you don’t have to worry about any nasty harsh chemicals flaring up your skin. I would say this hasn’t worked so well for me in terms of removing make-up but it’s definitely a cleanser which makes my skin feel plump and supple - a perfect second cleanse in the evening or morning refresh.
